Border Towns

Colin and Erin leave for Reynosa, Mexico tomorrow. They'll be doing street drama and light construction and hopefully getting their eyes opened wider to the world. It's a border town, which means it has a culture all its own that is different than the culture in the interior of Mexico. Can't help but think about the Nuevo Laredo days twenty+ years ago. There's nothing like sleeping on a driveway for seven nights to make you realize that perhaps life doesn't come down to our own comfort and ease of existence. There's also nothing like seeing people who have so little and yet are filled with so much generosity to make you wonder what life is really all about. I came back with a very different view of the world, even though I hadn't traveled that far. I also came back completely in love with the children. They were constantly wanting to give us gifts, hold our hands, laugh at our funny accents when we tried to speak their language. They were precious and I cried as I watched them out the bus window on the morning of our departure. They would be grown now - in their thirties, probably with children of their own. I wonder what life is like for them now. I hope Colin and Erin fall in love also - I hope they come back with a passion for making the world a better place. I also hope they brush their teeth and eat something besides peanut butter and jelly. Lots to pray about!
